YYGS-Singapore accepts applications from residents or citizens of any country who fulfill all of the following requirements:

  • Between the ages of 13 and 17 years old
  • A current high school freshman (US grade 9), sophomore (US grade 10), junior (US grade 11), or the international equivalent, at the time of application
  • Strong command of the English language

Applicants to the program must have some high school to complete after they attend the program, and we accept applications from current high school freshmen (US grade 9), sophomores (US Grade 10), and juniors (US Grade 11), or international equivalents. YYGS does not accept applications from current junior high school students (US grade 8) or from students who are under 13 years old. The program also does not accept applications from students who are current high school seniors (US grade 12), high school graduates, or college/university undergraduate students.

All students MUST have a strong command of the English language in order to keep up with the fast-paced environment of the YYGS-Singapore Program. If you are not a native English speaker and do not currently attend school in a country where English is the first language, YYGS strongly recommends that you take at least one test for non-native English speakers. Examples of such tests include TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language), IELTS (International English Language Testing System), or PTE (Pearson Test of English).

If testing is not available to you or is prohibitively expensive, we ask that you familiarize yourself with the level of English listening, speaking, and reading comprehension that will be required of you during the program to ensure productive classroom engagement for you and your peers. We encourage you to reference the Open Yale Courses webpage for an example of the level of English proficiency we expect for all students to have in the program. If you can understand the video lectures presented and interact at this level of English proficiency, you are eligible to apply for the program.
