What are the program dates for YYGS-Singapore?

The YYGS-Singapore program will run from May 30 through June 5.

Who can apply to YYGS-Singapore?

We accept and encourage students of all nationalities to apply to the program, so long as they are between the ages of 13 and 17, are a current high school freshman, sophomore, or junior (US grades 9, 10, or 11) at the time of the application, and have a strong command of the English language.

Do I really need to take the TOEFL or other English-Language Exam?

The TOEFL is NOT a requirement to apply for YYGS-Singapore. However, for International students attending school OUTSIDE the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, or Singapore, we strongly recommend submitting at least one English proficiency test score such as the TOEFL, PTE, or IELTS. Are any test scores required? Is there a minimum requirement for test scores?

No official tests are required, although we encourage you to submit any scores that you may have. In addition, we don’t require a minimum score for any tests you have taken.

Can I submit test scores after the application deadline?

Yes. As long as you take the test before the application deadline, you may submit your test score when you receive it, even if that is after the application deadline. However, because you will not be able to access your application after the deadline, please make a note on your application that a score is pending, and make sure to remember to email us at to report your score when you receive it.

How do I submit my transcript?

On the Education Page of your application, please enter the contact information for a school official who has access to your school report (transcript), and who would be willing to submit on your behalf. Once you provide this contact information, he or she will receive an automated email regarding the school report and directions on how to submit it. Please follow up personally with your school official to remind them of this request and to confirm that they received the upload link. 

Remember that the deadline to submit the transcript is the same as the application deadline.

How many years do you want for my transcript?

All applicants must have their current institution submit a school report (transcript). If you have been enrolled in your current school for less than one year, we request that you also submit a school report (transcript) from your previous school.

Are scholarships provided?

Yes, full and partial scholarships are provided to students who demonstrate financial need. Students may request scholarships as part of their application form. Students may also be eligible to waive their application fee. This request can be made by filling out the application fee waiver form. Scholarships do not cover travel expenses unless otherwise stated in your admissions letter. 

What is a statement of request?

A statement of request is a letter written by your parent(s) or legal guardian(s) that explains your financial need and/or provides additional information that may not be apparent from your financial documents. It should be uploaded along with your financial aid application.

If I apply to YYGS-Singapore, can I still apply to YYGS-Beijing? What is the difference between the two programs?

Yes! Students who participate in YYGS-Singapore are still able to apply to YYGS-Beijing, so long as they still meet all of the eligibility requirements of the program. Although the format of the programs are quite similar, the faculty lecturers, student instructors, seminar topics, workshop sessions, and peer group of students will be different. Students looking for a new YYGS experience in Asia are encouraged to apply. More details about the YYGS-Beijing program can be found here.

If I apply to YYGS-Singapore, can I still apply to YYGS at Yale University in New Haven?

Yes! In fact, YYGS-Singapore can provide you with some of the skills, experience, and knowledge that may improve your chances of acceptance to YYGS. We highly encourage YYGS-Singapore participants who want to continue their engagement with the YYGS community to apply for the program at Yale University in New Haven.
